The Seattle Rainmakers are poised to become the healthiest and strongest team in the league under the direction of the newly signed Official Rainmakers Chiropractor, Dr. Michael Li.
As if the Western Conference didn’t already have enough to worry about on the field, they now have a new addition to the Rainmakers staff to reckon with. Dr. Michael Li has been working with Ultimate players from a variety of Seattle Ultimate teams for years, and with a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board, a certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and yet another certification as a practitioner of Kinesio taping, he has more letters after his name than in it.
That being said, Dr. Li fully understands the unique challenges Ultimate players face, and he has incorporated the knowledge he has gained into his approach by addressing the stress points and body regions inherent to the sport.
Suffice to say, the man is qualified.
“My treating philosophy has always been: How can I get you better, fast? And empower you in how to stay well, because at the end of the day, we need to get them well and to stay well by themselves without having to always rely on someone like me. That, to me, that is holistic care.”
Dr. Li will be working in conjunction with Strength and Conditioning Coach Ren Caldwell to ensure that the Rainmakers are always in tiptop shape: “Ren and I have been working together for about three years now, so she knows me pretty well. Right now, she’s doing most of the preventative side and I am addressing the players who are injured.”
Beyond his highly cooperative relationship with Caldwell, Dr. Li is committed to never trying to fit a round peg into a square hole in treating the Rainmakers. “There’s more than one way to treat a patient, and that’s why I always want to learn different modalities or techniques. I always want to know what’s the best way, the quickest way to get my patients better. Whatever works for the patient, that’s what I use,” he said.
While other teams haven’t even fully filled out their rosters yet, the Rainmakers have quickly jumped ahead in the league by ensuring that theirs is fit for duty. And for that they have the hard work and dedication of Dr. Li to thank.
Dr. Li is looking forward to working with familiar and new faces on the Seattle Rainmakers this season.
