The Seattle Rainmakers have partnered with Veteran Tickets Foundation, or VetTix, an organization dedicated to creating memories and reintegration opportunities for veterans of the United States Armed Forces through attendance opportunities at a wide range of events, from sports games to concerts to theatre and more.
“Our mission at the Rainmakers is to provide the highest level Ultimate experience for all ages and walks of life, and we are excited and honored to partner with VetTix,” said Assistant General Manager Gabe Fertman. “We are pleased to provide 100 tickets to each of our home games so that VetTix members can come out and enjoy some highly deserved rest and relaxation. We look forward to seeing currently serving and retired veterans at our games and hope to make them proud.”
Founded in 2008, VetTix is a national non-profit that works with major sports teams, leagues, promoters, organizations, venues, and ticket holders to provide free and discounted tickets to currently serving and honorably discharged veterans from all branches of service – Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, as well as family of those killed in action.
Jennifer Boucher, Master Sergeant, U.S. Air Force (retired) and the Seattle Rainmakers’ liaison at VetTix, is enthusiastic about the prospects of the partnership.
“Like MLU, VetTix is a young organization, but we have made great strides for our military members both past and present over the years,” said Boucher. “We enjoy working with organizations who genuinely take an active interest in the wellness of our veterans. Like our military members, MLU has stepped up and given back tenfold.”
Many events that military and veteran families would love to attend simply end up being unaffordable, and yet it is precisely these events for which service members have fought and sacrificed. Veteran Tickets Foundation helps those families gain access to the All-American moments by partnering with individuals and organizations to give gifts of gratitude to those who have already given so much.
VetTix partners with the six other MLU teams in the United States and the feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive. The Seattle Rainmakers hope to continue this trend by exhibiting the values so central to the sport of Ultimate and so characteristic of Seattle’s Ultimate community.
“The spirit of Ultimate asks that every player be responsible for fair play and upholding the integrity of the game,” said Fertman.
“The ‘Spirit of the Game’ concept is something military members of all branches can relate to,” said Boucher. “With the Air Force, our core values are Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do. In the Army, Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage resonate through and through. The Navy and Marines focus on Honor, Courage and Commitment. The Coast Guard’s core values are Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty. As you can see, we all embrace some aspect of Spirit of the Game.”
