Well, it’s over. The first season of Major League Ultimate is in the books and some congratulations and thank-yous are in order.

First, congratulations to our rivals to the south, the San Francisco Dogfish, for taking the top spot in the Western Conference and for their excellent performance in the championship game. The Dogfish have been wonderful to play against at home and away, the crowds there have been a delight to play in front of, and we can’t wait to face off again next season.

Next, our hats are off to the Portland Stags and Vancouver Nighthawks for continually putting in the effort against us, for always making every game a tight and exciting battle, and for challenging us in each and every match-up.

A massive round of applause goes to the Boston Whitecaps for closing out their undefeated season with the very first MLU title. Although the Rainmakers never got a chance to actually face you on the field, we have the utmost respect for you ‘Caps as players, as professionals, and as people.

And to the New York Rumble, DC Current, and Philadelphia Spinners, respect to the Eastern Conference. Each weekend, before our warm-ups got under way, we couldn’t be torn away from our screens. Watching the east coast livestreams got us pumped up, not just to play our own games, but to be a part of something so incredible. You guys rock.

It follows then that the league itself is owed both thanks and congratulations. Major League Ultimate, you made something beautiful happen. The inaugural season was a success beyond anybody’s wildest expectations, and we cannot express our gratitude enough. Thank you for creating the platform to bring this incredible sport out into the open, for giving us the opportunity to do what we love in a professional sphere, and for doing it all in the way that you did it. Nobody could ask for more.

Thanks to all the league sponsors (Innova, Elemental Technologies, UltiPhotos, Waveborn, Friction Gloves, Five Ultimate) and to our local sponsors (RenFitness, Mobility Plus Healthcare, The Bridge, Seattle Children’s Hospital) for helping to make all of this possible.

Big ups to all the interns and volunteers who helped the Rainmakers and the league in a major way this season. You are appreciated more than you know.

The numbers don’t lie, but they don’t say everything either. This was more than just an 8-3 season for us. It was a flood of memories that we’ll carry with us as the sport – and we – continue to grow.

Our first practice. The preseason opener. Fan Appreciation Night. The RISE UP Kids youth clinic. Team Day. The roar of the crowd that drove us to earn more Play of the Week awards than we know what to do with.

And if Facebook likes and Twitter followers, favorites, and retweets are any indicator, in just a few short months we became the most liked professional Ultimate team in the world.

So perhaps the biggest thank you of all goes to you, the fans. Thank you for coming out to support us whether you were able to make it out to games or got to enjoy them from the comfort of your home via the MLU Live. You are the fuel to our fire, or the Rain to our ‘Makers. We’re mixing metaphors here; it’s all too much. There are no words. Just…thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

We’ll be having an end-of-season party at Kate’s Pub from 7-9 pm. Everyone is welcome.

We look forward to seeing faces both new and old come spring. See you next season, and until then, make it rain!
